2015 NWAC Soccer Friendlies was a huge success
The 2015 NWAC Soccer Friendlies held at Willamalane Center for Sports and Recreation over the weekend was a huge success.
On Saturday evening, event sponsor Hole in the Wall BBQ fed over 1000 student-athletes and their coaches with Hilton Garden Inn providing cookies and Toby’s Family Foods providing a tofu spread.
Many thanks to Neil Laudati and Mayor Christine Lundberg, City of Springfield, along with Gary Rodgers of Hole in the Wall BBQ for their help sponsoring the BBQ.
During the meal, Springfield Councilwoman Marilee Woodward and members of the Brattain House accepted several dozen backpacks donated by the 49 participating teams for families in need in the Eugene-Springfield area. The backpacks were filled with school supplies and clothes. Clackamas Community College women's team was the top donor with 15 backpacks delivered.
NWAC Executive Director Marco Azurdia was pleased with the event, "We had a great atmosphere for the soccer friendlies with good weather, quality competition, and a great host in Lane Community College and Willamalane. We very much appreciate the support of the community of Springfield and the Eugene, Cascades & Coast Sports Commission. We were also very excited about our student-athletes' support of the Brattain House."
Valley River Inn also donated several large boxes filled to the brim with apples, oranges and bananas for Sunday's matches.
