Five Titans make first team

Lane Community College had five baseball players named to the NWAACC All-South Region first team on Monday, and four more made the second team.

Starting pitchers Chris Reed and Josh Orr, and reliever Nick Phillips, who led the NWAACC with 12 saves, were named to the first team along with Titan shortstop Shay Huskey and third baseman Matt Myrmo.

Voted to the second team by the South coaches were outfielder Quinn Peck, designated hitter Andrew Schumacher, second baseman Kyle Hoover and pitcher Reed Nicholson.

Reed, Myrmo and Hoover are Thurston High School graduates, and Schumacher is from Churchill.

Lane (29-15, 20-10), which finished 18-3 over the last month of the regular season, begins play in the NWAACC tournament at 7:35 p.m. Thursday at Longview, Wash., against the host Lower Columbia Red Devils.
