Lane decathletes set big marks at Westmont
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Lane decathlete Colton Thurman won the Westmont Collegiate Classic decathlon on Friday, scoring a career-best 6,450 points to beat out Erich VanBergen of George Fox by 32 points.
Thurman, a sophomore from Marshfield, won the long jump and built up a big enough point total to hold off the charging VanBergen over the final four events.
Giovanni Brown finished ninth for the Titans and closed with a strong kick in the 1,500 meters to win in 4 minutes, 37.73 seconds. Freshman Brock Pinney, from Springfield, set a lifetime-best in the javelin and finished 11th overall.
