Lane Community College is on top of the NWAACC basketball world, with both its men’s and women’s teams earning a No. 1 ranking in the latest NWAACC coaches poll released Thursday.

It is thought to be the first time both teams have ever both been ranked No. 1, said women’s coach and Lane athletic director Greg Sheley, and it’s certainly the first time the men have been ranked this high since at least 1999, and maybe not even then.

The Titan men are 11-2 and have the most wins and tied for the fewest losses in the 33-team NWAACC. They defeated then-No. 1 Yakima Valley 82-75 last Saturday.

Lane was ranked sixth in the previous poll, its first ranking in seven years under coach Bruce Chavka. The Titans received 74 of the possible 80 points in the latest poll.

“Very exciting,” Chavka wrote in a text message Thursday. “The players are eating what we’re feeding them, completely buying in.”

The Lane women (11-0) maintained their top ranking, and lead the NWAACC in points, assists, steals and blocks.
