Lane takes over first place

Lane made sure the showdown for first place in the NWAACC Southern Region was no contest.

Sarah Brolsma Whitfield scored 26 points, and the second-ranked Titans shot 51.6 percent from the field to earn an 85-73 victory over third-ranked Clackamas in a women's basketball game on Saturday at Lane.

The victory left Lane all alone atop the Southern Region at 5-0, 16-1 overall. Clackamas (4-1, 13-3) fell into a second-place tie with Umpqua.

It was close until halftime, when the Titans led 43-38, but Lane shot almost 54 percent from the field in the second half and extended the lead to as much as 66-50 late in the game.

Lynette Minthorn added 15 points for Lane, Kaitlyn Kronberger scored 13 and Theresa Brown had 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Shayla Ball led Clackamas with 17 points off the bench, and Johnnelle Kapua added 16 points
