Pitching carries Saints to baseball sweep of Titans
Michael McCall retired Tucker Campbell on a comebacker to the mound to strand the tying run on third and preserve Mount Hood’s 3-2 victory over Lane to complete a baseball doubleheader sweep at Titan Field on Friday.
Cole Hamilton drove in two first-inning runs for the Saints, and Louis Wolf had an RBI single in the third.
Konner Reddick and Darin Nelson each drove in a run for the Titans, and Erik Ruaro took the loss after allowing four hits and all three runs over 6 1/3 innings.
In the opener, Evan Jones hit a two-run home run in the first inning and Jake Dahlberg (5-2) scattered six hits, struck out three and pitched a complete game in a 4-2 victory for Mount Hood.
Lane cut the deficit to 2-1 in the fourth on Jarren Goddard’s RBI double and tied the score in the fifth on Erik Long’s run-scoring single. The Saints went ahead to stay on pinch hitter Jake Azevedo’s RBI double in the sixth and added an insurance on his bases-loaded single in the eighth.
Malik Evans took the loss for Lane in relief of starter Jarred Priestley, who went the first five innings. Evans recorded six of his eight outs on strikes.
The Titans (20-13, 12-8) trail Clark by two games for the lead in the NWAACC South Region. They play a doubleheader at Chemeketa starting at 1 p.m. today.
