Shields Overpowers Lakers
Wednesday night's South Region women's clash between Lane CC and Southwestern Oregon CC figured to be a battle of two of the best posts in the NWAACC and it was, for a half. Lane's Megan Shields (Sherwood,OR) and SWOCC's Quynne Eharris scored and rebounded to a standstill in the first half, Shields collecting 13 pts and 7 rebounds with Eharris scoring 9 pts and pulling down 12 boards. However, it was a totally different story after the break with the Titans leading 32-26, as Shields dominated the game with 31 pts, 17 rebounds, 8 blocked shots and 4 steals to lead the Titans to a 65-49 road win.
Lane began the game with a 6-0 run but six lead changes later the first half was a low scoring game with the Lakers trying to milk the clock and paying for it with several clock violations. They managed to hang there and only trailed by six at the break.
The Titans came out firing after halftime and overpowered SWOCC with their inside game and stretched the lead to 50-33 within the first ten minutes of the half. Stretching the lead to as much as nineteen points, the Titans never looked back and collected the sixteen point win.
Shields dominated the statistics for the Titans but others contributing with Courtney Walchli (Hermiston, OR.) scoring 9 pts and grabbing 6 boards, Nicole Hannifan (Milwaukee, OR.) with 8 pts, 4 caroms and a team leading 4 steals, Simone Thompson (Gardena, CA) 6 pts, Kersey Wilcox (Prineville, OR.) 5 pts and a team leading 4 assists.
With three games remaining in the regular season, Lane (23-2, 9-2 South Region) faces league leading Clackamas (21-3, 11-0 South region) this Saturday in Titan Gym at 2:00pm.
