Titans open baseball season with sweep
WILSONVILLE — Lane Community College scored four times in the top of the ninth inning, with Colby Rice doubling home the game-winning run, in a 7-6 baseball victory over Bellevue at Wilsonville High School on Friday to complete a season-opening doubleheader sweep.
The Titans trailed 5-3 before Erik Long and Tucker Campbell singled and Spencer Smith reached base on an error to force in the first run in the ninth. Konner Reddick’s one-out sacrifce and another error gave Lane a 6-5 lead before Rice’s double capped the rally.
Bellevue scored once in the bottom of the ninth before Jackson Bertsch, who pitched the final two innings for the Titans, struck out Aaron Sandefur with runners on second and third to end the game and earn the win.
In the first game, Campbell’s two-run triple in the bottom of the eighth inning gave the Titans a 5-4 victory. Reddick and Jarren Goddard singled ahead of Campbell’s game-winning hit.
Chris Neifert, who came on in relief of starter Parker Sherrell in the seventh inning, picked up the win, and Travis Boggs pitched the ninth for the save. Spencer Smith, who also tripled, Goddard and Campbell each had two of the Titans’ 10 hits.
Lane hosts Centralia at Titan Field in a doubleheader starting at noon Saturday.
