Wilcox Twins Second Half Lead Titans to Big Win

Jordan and Kersey Wilcox (Prineville, OR) scored 23 of the Lane women's 31 points in the second half of Saturday's South region battle with league leading Clackamas CC to lead the Titans to a 66-63 win.  With 29 players and coaches from Mountain View High School (the twins alma mater) in attendance the girls scored in different ways.  Jordan scored 15 pts, going 3-for-6 from the 3-pt line, adding a couple buckets and free throws. Kersey went 8-for-8 from the free throw line adding to her career free throws made record at Lane. 

 

Lane started strong racing to a 9-2 lead early in the first half and building their biggest lead 15-6 at the twelve minute mark.  The Cougars things up with two three's and the rest of the half seesawed back and forth with eight lead changes and four ties.  With 5 seconds to go in the half, Danielle Schmidt (Hillsboro, OR.) stole an inbounds pass and went for a layup to give the Titans a 35-33 halftime lead.

 

Lane's defense continued to slow down the Cougars in the second half making them force shots, leading to 28.6% for the game whichi is well below their league average.  The game included a total of 12 lead changes and 7 ties.  The Titans forced several turnovers which led to made free throws and lay ups down the stretch to seal the win.  With a two point lead and 55 seconds left, Megan Shields (Sherwood, OR.) made one of her four blocks in the game with led to two Kersey Wilcox free throws to push the Titan lead to four points.  Clackamas scored a layup to get within two points but was fouled Shields with 10.6 seconds left, she hit one of two free throws and Clackamas missed a long 3-point shot a the buzzer.

 

Shields once again led the Titans in scoring with 18 pts, she also had the team high 6 rebounds and the aforementioned 4 blocks.  Jordan Wilcox also tied Shields with 6 rebounds to go with her 15 second half points.  Kersey Wilcox grabbed 5 rebounds and had a team high 3 assists with Tori Mahaffie (Eugene, OR.) also collecting 5 boards.  Schimdt, Courtney Walchli (Hermiston, OR.) and Nicole Hannifan (Milwaukee, OR) each had 6 pts and 4 boards in the win.

 

The Lane victory marked the 500th college win for Head Coach Greg Sheley, 317 of their victories have come at Lane in his fourteen seasons at the helm against only 60 losses. 

 

The Titans (24-2, 10-2 South region) face the Umpqua Riverhawks (17-8, 7-5 South region) Wednesday at 5:30pm in their last home game of the season.
