Coaching Staff

Head Coach Dale Weigandt
Coach Weigandt begins his 12th season as a head coach and 3rd year at Lane.  Dale began his career at nearby North Eugene High School first as a JV coach and was promoted to Varsity coach in 1989.  His teams made four playoff or sub-playoff appearances during his tenure.

In 2000, Dale returned to Lane, his alma mater.  During his initial season, Dale discovered first-hand how difficult it is to win in the Southern Division, which has produced 5 of the last 6 NWAACC Champions.  Despite the Titans winning just 2 league games in his inaugural season, Dale actually matched the school’s league win totals of the two previous years combined!  The 12 total victories (10 non-league) was the most of any Lane volleyball team in the previous 5 years.

With the league expanding its playoff format to include an additional four teams in 2001, the Titans entered the season with high hopes. The Titans entered league play with a winning record, yet struggled to keep up with the powerhouse teams of the Southern Division.  After dropping eight of their first nine league matches, the Titans pulled together and played well down the stretch.  LCC closed out the season by winning their last three league matches to finish 4-8 in the division
and one game out of the playoffs.  Even though the team showed steady improvement by going 4-8 in league and 14-16-5 overall, both school bests since 1996, it is the fact that two players made All-NWAACC Second Team, with another making the Honorable Mention list, that pleases Coach Dale the most.

The Titans have plenty of reasons to be optimistic entering the 2002 season.  LCC is returning five players, has recruited seven premier, in-state players, and open their league competition with five straight home games.  There will also be three new coaches within the division to help the Titans along.  Taking all of these factors into account, the Titans could very well achieve their goal of making the playoffs.

Dale, and his wife, Julie, reside in Eugene and are the parents of Kenny and Laura.  Julie is a registered nurse at Sacred Heart Hospital.

Assistant Coach Michelle Kau
Coach Kau was a graduate of Crow High School in 1986 and was a two-year, all-state player in volleyball.  After high school, she attended Umpqua Community College on a volleyball/basketball scholarship and later went on to graduate from the University of Oregon with a B.S. in Sociology.  Michelle began coaching volleyball in 1992 at Crow High School as a JV/Assistant Varsity coach.  After two years, she moved into the position of Head Varsity Coach where she remained until 2001.

Married with 3 daughters, Michelle is currently employed at Applegate
Elementary School in the Library/Media Department.
