Adidas Classic Recap
The Titans traveled up to Portland, OR for the Adidas Classic at Fernhill Park this past weekend. The racing conditions were ideal and several 4-year schools were in attendance creating some fast times and stiff competition. The course was fairly flat with one significant hill on a loop that the women went around three times, while the men's race included four loops.
The men started the day off with their second 8k of the season. Michael Maisonville (FR) returned to the top spot for the Titans placing 27th overall and 3rd among Community College runners. Daniel Silvey (FR) was close behind in 35th (4th CC runner), while Ryan Perry (FR) helped close the team gap to finish 45th overall (5th CC runner). The men finished seventh in the overall team race, and only 15 points behind NWAACC foe Treasure Valley Community College. The men were running without Cesar Perez who will be competing in the Beaver Classic on 10/22.
The women respectively followed up with a gutsy 5k. Gylany Crossman (SO), who hasn't raced in several weeks, was the Titans top runner finishing 21st overall and 2nd amongst Community College runners. Rachel Jensen (SO) continued to run strong finishing as the 6th Community College runner. "This was the first real test of our fitness this season, and we are looking very strong" said Coach John Scholl. "Overall, I think we had a fairly good showing for this point in the season. I'm definitely not satisfied, and I don't think our athletes are either. We've only really had one solid week of interval training, and with one month until the NWAACC Championships, we are still on pace to turn some heads in Everett, WA."
Cesar Perez will compete in the Beaver Classic in Corvallis on 10/22, while the rest of the Titans will have a week off before both teams head to Clackamas CC in Oregon City to compete in the Southern Region Championships on 10/29.
