Centralia 62 - Lane 59 [stats]
In a thrilling opening to the second day of the men's tournament, Centralia's all-star guard Van Lockett came up huge, netting 20 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists to help Centralia knock off Lane 62-59 and stay to play another day.
A back-and-fourth match up from the start, Lane finally found some traction and strung together several good possessions to go up seven with 11 minutes left in the first. Centralia rallied back, but Lane answered and inched their lead to eight points with 1:23 to go in the first period.
On the next possession, Centrala got a huge three pointer from John Dumetz to cut the gap to five. Lockett stole the ball on Lane's run down the floor and drew the foul and hit the first free throw. Lockett missed the second, but grabbed the offensive board and got a whistle from behind the three point line, hitting two of three to make it a two point game.
On the ensuing possession for Lane, Jarred Kelsey's three point attempt at the shot clock buzzer was late, resulting in one last chance for Centralia with 1.2 seconds left on the clock. The Blazers inbounded to Lockett, who heaved up a shot from 3/4 court and connected, giving Centralia the halftime lead.
In the second half, Lane took the advantage once more, going up by as many as five. Centralia fought back and took the lead on a steal and layup by Dam with 28 seconds left, putting the Blazers up 60-58. From there, Lane went 1-1 from the free throw line and Centralia was a perfect 2/2, giving the Blazers the narrow victory.
Centralia will play on Monday morning at 10 a.m. verses the winner of the Peninsula - Walla Walla game.
