Claver leads Lane women to team title
OREGON CITY — MaCayla Claver covered the 5,000-meter course in 19 minutes, 24 seconds to finish second and lead Lane Community College to the women’s title at the NWAACC Southern Region Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Clackamas Community College.
The Titans won the women’s title with 31 points, and Mount Hood was second with 60.
In the men’s race, the Titans finished second with 38 points, one point behind Clark.
The Titans won the overall title with 69 points, and Lane coach John Scholl was named women’s coach of the year.
The Lane women placed all five of their runners in the top 11. Andrea Gruber finished fifth in 19:51, and Rita Krantz was sixth in 20:07.
In the men’s race, Lane’s Travis Stevens outkicked teammate Cesar Perez at the line to win the individual title, covering the 8,000-meter course in 25:55.
Sterling Teall finished fifth for the Titans in 27:06, and Michael Bellamy was 10th in 28:06.
