Cornwell helps LCC snap skid in doubleheader split with Storm
Alex Cornwell and two relief pitchers combined on a four-hitter as Lane Community College blanked Chemeketa, 2-0, on Saturday for a split of their NWAACC baseball doubleheader to snap a five-game losing streak.
Cornell (1-0) struck out four and walked four over five innings, and Zach Eyster and Keynan Middleton, who picked up his first save, each pitched an inning of hitless relief in the seven-inning victory. The Titans (9-13, 5-5) had just one hit — Matt Taylor’s leadoff double in the first — and scored on Shaun Boehm’s groundout that drove in Taylor and Daniel Copeland’s RBI groundout in the fifth.
The Storm (10-13) took the opener, 4-3, after scoring three unearned runs off Lane starter Colben McGuire (0-3), who struck out a season-high 13 in 8 1/3 innings. Cody Chagnon, Andrew Tracy and Corey Wynant each had an RBI for the Titans.
