Free Throws Doom Lady Titans Perfect Season
The Clackamas CC Cougars made 21-of-23 free throws in the second half Saturday to spur a second half comeback and beat the Lane Titans 77-64. The Titans made only one free throw in the second half on two attempts and this proved to be the difference. The Titans went into the locker room at the half with a 35-27 lead but couldn't control the Cougars half court offense in the second half and fell for the first time this season and first time in league dropping to 18-1 and 4-1 in the South region.
Sophomore post Megan Shields (Sherwood, OR.) was bright spot for the Titans with 14 pts, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks, but her time was limited in both halves with foul trouble. Kersey Wilcox (Prineville, OR.) had 12 pts and 5 assists, twin sister Jordan Wilcox (Prineville, OR.) had 11 pts going 3-for-7 from the three pt line. Danielle Schmidt (Hillsboro, OR.) had 11 pts for the Titans while Tori Mahaffie (Eugene, OR.) had 7 pts and a team high 6 rebounds.
Titan nemesis Jenny Johnson had a game high 25 pts while Laci Effenberger had 17 pts for the Cougars. The Cougars are now alone in first place in the South region with a 5-0 record.
The Titans look to get back on the winning track Wednesday evening when they visit the Umpqua CC Riverhawks at 5:30pm.
