Lady Titans Open Season With Titan Classic

11/18/2015 11:35

The 2015-2016 season begins for the Lane Titan women's basketball team with an 8:00pm game versus Pierce College in the Second Annual Titan Classic this Friday.  The NWAC runnerup Titans won the inaugural tournament last year.  The tournament begins with a 6:00pm meeting between Spokane and Linn-Benton, who have resurrected their program from a two year absence from competition.

Coach Sheley's squad returns an abundance of talent from last year's squad and the 2013-2014 team.  Several promising freshman also are in the mix for playing time. When asked about the upcoming season Head Coach Greg Sheley said this, "I'm very much looking forward to the upcoming season.  We have a very talented group with a unique blend of experience".

Jordan Kimbrough (17.2 pts, 10.8 reb, 2.4 blocks) first team All-South region selection leads the talented front court contingent.  Jordan was also a first team All-NWAC tournament selection last season.  Bre DuBois (7.5 pts, 7.3 reb) returns after being selected to the 2nd team All-NWAC tournament team and figures to play several positions again for the Titans.  Another part-time starter also returns for the Titans, Sara Kesling (2.9 pts, 2.5 reb) and figures to use her athleticism to get plenty of playing time this season. Other talented front court players in the mix will be former Northwest Conference Player of the Year, Mallory Shields (Sherwood HS, Sherwood, OR) who will also play in several spots for the Titans.  Kalani Kast, a member of two 5A State Champion teams at Williamette High, entered her freshman season for the Titans after reshirting last season at New Hope Christian College. Kast figures to get plenty of minutes down low for the Titans and solidify an already good rebounding team.

In the backcourt for the Titans, Shelby Snook (19.9 pts, 6.6 reb, 4.9 assists) a first team All-South region selection in 2013-2014 returns at the point after sitting out last season because of injuries.  Snook broke the Titans single game scoring record after a 44 point performance against Umpqua CC in 2014.  Another three year sophomore Gabby Heehn (16 pts, 4 reb) returns after sitting out last season.  Gabby brings long range shooting potential back to the Titans after a poor performance in that category by Lane last season.  Heehn, sits third on the Titans all-time season three point made list hitting 72 in her freshman season.  Jordan Rodriquez (Sunnyside High, Sunnyside, WA) comes to Lane with impressive credentials, Sunnyside High's all-time leading scorer, former 4A All-State Honorable Mention selection in Washington and a 12 point per game scoring average in 2014-2015.

Leila Petewon (Springfield High, Springfield, OR.) a member of Springfield High's state champion team from a few years back and Meg Jackson (Roseburg High, Roseburg, OR.) round out this year's squad.
