Lane stays alive in NWAC tourney
LONGVIEW, Wash. — Tony Ortiz scampered home from second base on an error by the Mt. Hood shortstop in the bottom of the 10th inning Friday to give the Lane baseball team a 3-2 win over the Saints in a consolation game of the NWAC Championships.
The Titans stayed alive in the double-elimination tournament with the win and will play at 11 a.m. Saturday in another loser-out game.
Ortiz led off the bottom of the 10th with a double. After Skyler Vail flew out to third base, Colton Sakamoto grounded to the Mt. Hood shortstop. The ball took a bad hop off the glove of the shortstop and into left field, allowing Ortiz to score the winning run.
Mt. Hood took a 2-1 lead in the top of the third inning before the Titans scored a run in the eighth to tie it at 2-2. Ortiz led of the eighth with a single, advanced to second on a Thomas Rudinsky sacrifice, went to third on a passed ball and scored on a Bryce Mulcahy single.
