Late basket gives Lane lease on life
BELLEVUE, Wash. — Amber Lease stole an inbounds pass and scored a layup with 24 seconds remaining to put Lane ahead for good, and the Titans held off a comeback by Bellevue for a 67-65 victory over the Bulldogs at the Bellevue Classic women’s basketball tournament on Saturday.
Sarah Hall added a free throw with 9 seconds left for Lane, which lost an 18-point third-quarter lead.
The Titans (5-0) will face Southern Region foe Umpqua in Sunday’s tournament championship game.
Sierra Carrier led Lane, which played without Megan Shields, who suffered a knee injury on Friday, with 18 points, and Rachel Fielder added 16 points and seven rebounds. Lease and Jordan Rodriguez had nine assists apiece for the Titans, who led 38-24 at halftime.
Brenda Akoto led Bellevue with 24 points and 10 rebounds, and Melinda Akota added 15 points.
