Wilcox and Mahaffie lead 2nd Half Surge
Lane Lady Titans once again waited until the second half to separate and separate they did, blowing out Skagit Valley Cardinals 93-64 in the semi-finals of the Pierce College Holiday tournament.
Lane struggled in the first half for the second consecutive game, shooting a low percentage 29% and committing several unnecessary fouls in route to a 37-36 disadvantage.
The Lady Titans once again jumped on the Cardinals early and often to start the half. Their swarming defense causing several turnovers and after seven minutes of the half they had built up a fifteen point advantage.
Kersey Wilcox (Bend,OR.) led all scorers with 15 points, including going 6-for-6 from the free throw line and making her 19-for-20 from the line for the season. Tori Mahaffie (Eugene,OR.) contributed 14 points and 8 rebounds off the bench plus starting point guard Maddy Moore (San Ramon, CA.) had 11 points in the win. Megan Shields (Sherwood, OR.) grabbed 8 rebounds and had 3 blocks before fouling out. The bench, once again was major factor in the win with Maddie Henshaw (Eugene, OR.) scoring 9 points, Felli Rodriquez (Springfield, OR.) joined starters Renee Lucero (Stanwood,WA.) and Nicole Hannifan (Milwaukee,OR.) scoring 8 points. All twelve players who suited up for the game scored.
For the fourth consecutive year the Lane (6-0) will meet Southern Region foe Clackamas CC in the Pierce final. Lane has won two of the past three finals.
