EUGENE, OR -- On Saturday, Jan. 3, the Lane Titans men's basketball team won their conference opener against the Portland Panthers, 88-78. The Panthers held a seven-point lead going into halftime but couldn't keep up with the Titans' hot shooting in the second half. Freshman Nate Stiffler came off the bench and went a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and finished with 15 points in 18 minutes, but the most impressive performance from the first game came from Noah Salmon who recorded 23 points and 19 rebounds.
In Saturday's 4 p.m. game the Titans women took care of business from the tipoff. Sophomore Maitlin Young the first three 3-pointers of the game and finished with a season-high 33 points. Freshman Savannah Shuck added 5 points, 8 rebounds and 1 block extending the Titans winning streak to six games entering Wednesday's matchup against Southwestern Oregon Lakers.
Both team will continue their Southern Region schedule on Wednesday, Jan. 7 at home against the Southwestern Oregon Lakers with the men tipping off at 5:30, followed by the women's game at 7:30.
