EUGENE, OR -- The Lane Titans women's team defeated the visiting Umpqua Riverhawks in double overtime, 107-101, on Wednesday, Feb. 25. The team also honored three sophomores for their contributions to the program over the last two years. Ruby Harberg, Maitlin Young and Alessa Soto were recognized prior to tipoff.
The Titans and Riverhawks were battling for seeding at the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC). Lane scored 22 in the first quarter, but only managed nine in the second and went into the half ahead 31-27.
The second half was the Gretchen Orton show. With just 12 points at halftime, she would go on to finish with 46 points - 34 in the second half and overtime - and set a new school record for points in a game. She nearly recorded a triple double grabbing 10 rebounds and dishing 8 assists.
Young was the Titans second leading scorer with 26 points on 11-for-19 shooting.
In overtime, it was a couple three-pointers by Brytlee Harris would lift the Titans past the Riverhawks and into the No. 2 seed in the Southern Region.
On Saturday, March 7, the Titans will play the Green River Gators (No. 3 seed in the West). The game will be played at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, WA. at 8 p.m.
