The Lane Titans volleyball team defeated the Umpqua Riverhawks in 5 sets Friday night to secure the first victory for new head cooach Keri Green.
The Titans started their season with a stretch of tough opponents in their first five matches. They remained competitive with a young team but could not get over the hump.
The young season struggles continued in the first set as Umpqua won it 25-22.
The Titans, however, responded strongly, dominating the second set 25-18.
They continued to control the match in the third set, winning 25-22 and taking a 2-1 lead with a chance to win the match in the fourth set.
The Riverhawks evened it up 2-2 after taking the third set 25-20, but it was not enough and the Titans were able to dominate the fifth set 15-8 and win the match.
Lane now holds a 1-5 record, 1-1 in conference play with back-to-back conference road games coming up next weekend against Clark and Mt. Hood.
